Well, as happens occasionally, we only got through two of the meals on our list last week. We're nothing if not flexible!
I've also been very conscious of making do and making things last lately. For no other reason than I think it's good practice. I'm so used to just getting things whenever I want now, instead of using what we already have. I never used to be like that - I was super-poor for years, and was always thinking thriftily and frugally. I guess it's normal to buy more when you have more, but it's not really in line with what I want out of life.
So this week I didn't buy anything on top of whatever we bought at the markets and supermarket last week. Except cat food, or the cat would have meowed us all stupid. We were absolutely never short of anything, but that didn't stop my itchy trigger finger wanting to just go and get stuff. While I never feel the urge to buy things, I am constantly fighting the battle to go and buy food. Just because I'm sick of looking at the same stuff in the fridge for a week, even though it more than meets our needs. BAD HABIT! Bad! Stop! It is so wasteful.
My number-one worst habit is letting my veggies go bad because I don't cook them in time. So I made a conscious effort to either blanch and freeze when I could see they were about to turn on me, I roasted a lot for the baby, and I made a lovely colcannon with some silverbeet that had seen better days. It was delicious.
Today is marketing and shopping again. I will buy consciously.
PS I was over at JustB yesterday, talking about tattoos and people's attitudes toward them. Feel free to check it out, if that's your thang.
